Written with modern melodic harmonies and from a different perspective, the 15 original songs in the Penny Corris New American Songbook evoke the jazzy, romantic, sophisticated music and lyrics of Gershwin and Porter. Penny’s husband Bob, an English major and attorney, wrote lyrics for all the songs.  Penny jokingly refers to Bob as “Ira” and he to her as “George.”

The Songbook premiered on June 13, 2015 at the Helene Zelazo Center for the Performing Arts in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  The performing artists were the Dan Dance Trio with guest saxophonist Bob Rebholz and vocalist Niffer Clarke.
